Fairtrade Event at Ranfurly
Some of the members of our Eco Council attended an event called 'Meet the Producer' as part of Fairtrade Fortnight. They heard a report from John Joseph, a FAIRTRADE farmer of coffee and spices in India. It was great to see how he and many other farmers in the Fairtrade association were getting paid a fair price for their produce. This means that the whole community can have a better quality of life and overcome poverty.
The children also took part in a quiz, coming in as runners up. Well done! One of the most enjoyable parts of the morning was the delicious Fairtrade break.
Please remember to look out for the FAIRTRADE mark on tea, coffee, chocolate, bananas, sugar, honey and cocoa. The products may cost a little extra but each purchase makes a BIG difference to the farmers and producers.
