Thank you to Stephanie from Timesteps Living History who visited our classroom today to tell us about life in the past. She works as a maid in the big house. We helped her to do her chores. We washed the clothes using a tin bath and a washboard-the carbolic soap didn’t smell very nice. We cleaned the mats using a carpet beater. We churned the butter. We saw lots of interesting items-a moustache cup, hair curlers, a penny lick which was used for ice-cream (but wasn’t very hygienic), a carriage lamp and even grape scissors! P2/3 really enjoyed this informative and interactive session.
