School Council represent NI at Commonwealth service in Westminster Abbey.

13th Mar 2024

On Monday, six members of the school council and two teachers attended the Commonwealth Day service in Westminster Abbey. Following a 6am flight to London Stansted the party travelled into central London by train. Miss Winslow took everyone on a whistlestop tour of some of the sights as requested by the pupils.

The Tower of London, Buckingham Palace, St James' Palace, Trafalgar Square, the Lego Store, Leicester Square, China town, Big Ben, Horse Guards Parade, The Supreme Court and the London Eye were just some of the requests! This was all fitted in between 8:30am and 1pm.  In the afternoon, pupils and staff attended the Commonwealth Day service in Westminster Abbey. Those attending included Her Majesty The Queen, The Prince of Wales, The Duke and Duchess of Edinburgh, The Princess Royal and other members of the Royal Family.   The service - marking 75 years of the Commonwealth - drew on this year’s Commonwealth Day theme ‘One Resilient Common  Future: Transforming our Commonwealth’, highlighting stories of resilience through performances and reflections representing the five regions of the Commonwealth.   It was an honour that Darcy, a Primary 6 pupil, was selected to present a posy of flowers to Sophie, The Duchess of Edinburgh.   Everyone returned to school safely late on Monday evening with at least 20,000 footsteps completed.   A brilliant experience for everyone. Thanks to Mrs Hardy and Miss Winslow for accompanying the pupils.
